FENDER® GUITAR TO BE PLAYED BY WYCLEF JEAN DURING 2014 FIFA WORLD CUPTM CEREMONY
GRAMMY Award-Winning artist to perform “Dar Um Jeito (We Will Find A Way)”, the official anthem of the 2014 FIFA World CupTM
—with Santana, featuring Avicii and Alexandre Pires—on a customized Telecaster® Thinline guitar.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (July 10, 2014) — Fender is pleased to announce GRAMMY Award-Winning artist, Wyclef Jean, will perform “Dar Um Jeito (We Will Find A Way)”, the official 2014 FIFA World CupTM anthem—with Santana, featuring Avicii and Alexandre Pires—on a customized Fender Telecaster Thinline guitar during the event’s widely-televised closing ceremony from the legendary Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Sun., July 13.
The custom Telecaster Thinline guitar features a Haitian flag finish to celebrate Jean’s heritage, and houses the Fender/Fishman Power Bridge, which includes six piezo transducer bridge pickups that produce shimmering acoustic tones alongside traditional electric guitar tones, or any combination thereof.
“Wyclef is a creative artistic force, not only as a musician, but as a citizen of the world,” said Justin Norvell, Vice President of Marketing for Fender. “Fender is extremely proud to be a partner in his musical ‘campaign’ to unite the world in a positive and meaningful way.”
In addition, the Telecaster Thinline guitar combines Fender’s striking Tele® styling with traditional lightweight thinline design. With its semi-hollow ash body with f-hole and dual Fideli’Tron humbucking pickups, it’s a truly distinctive and powerful take on Fender’s first electric guitar.
Other features include a modern “C”-shaped maple neck with urethane finish, 9.5”-radius maple fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and black-dot inlays, three-way toggle pickup switching, single-ply pickguard, single knurled-chrome master volume control and vintage-style string-through-body Stratocaster hard-tail bridge.
“Dar Um Jeito (We Will Find A Way)”, which was released globally on April 29, was the brainchild of two-time GRAMMY-Nominated producer/songwriter Ash Pournouri (PRMD Music) and Arnon Woolfson and produced by Pournouri, Rami Yacoub, Carl Falk, Wyclef Jean, and Tim Bergling in PRMD Studios in Stockholm.
Wyclef Jean is a Haitian-American hip hop recording artist, musician, actor, and politician. He moved to America at age nine and first reached notoriety with his band the Fugees before launching a successful solo career. More recently, Jean has established many charitable organizations, became active in Haitian politics, and filed for candidacy in the 2010 Haitian presidential election. Through all his activities, music has played a central role in his life.
“As a guitar player, when I play a Fender it’s not just six strings on a guitar,” said Jean. “Every time I strum a chord on a Fender I know I inspire a generation with Fender’s sound, as well as quality of performance.”
